  • QUOTE USED IN THE PUBLICATION- FORT WAYNE READER, JIM SACK- WRITER. I was just cutting and pasting. nice speech at the city council, by the way. We agree on some things- the main thing- is the city govt- we the people collectively- has the duty to kee our citizens safe- even the ones who dont vote; or donate cash to re-election campaigns..
unless the local bishop opens up his downtown church pews; or the city "comandeers( temporaty eminent domain, etc- some vacant buildings- such as the former FWPD horse barn- which is city owned; the old paint store on superior, the former shrine ticket office on Main, the former box factory- along harrison st- just that building- and man y more- well- it doesnt fix the problem- getting the homeless indoors out of the elemenstso they dont freeze to death. somewhere warm, compassionate, and where folks like you, and others- can do some "triage"-and sort out these folks to where they need to go.
im totally agains thelping Felons/sex offenders/rapists- theyare homeless because they need to leave town.. the rest- need our help and the city govt has milions for the ash ball park; millions to hand out for corporate welfare, millions for the legacy cash pot; etc- but not a dime for the homeless( the ones I would help..the others- id help with a bus ticket.. not to mention all the motels taken up by sex offendersalong coliseum blvd..
    anyway- Heres the edited version..
    http://www.fortwaynereader.com/story.php?uid=2692

"This all means change and change means unrest. Recently, police rousted a bunch of homeless from our river banks. An officer friend told me part of the story: that the homeless gents would pop out of their enclosures butt-naked and "P" wherever they chose, sometimes to the amusement of passing drivers, sometimes to consternation of joggers on the Greenway. After more than a few complaints, a number of “settlements” were cleared out and multiple dump trucks full of debris taken to the landfill. Some of these gentlemen were "P" ing or "#2-ing" in public, some were begging for bucks on the Greenway, some intimidating the Lululemon crowd. My friend the officer said more than a few of the men living in the trees, along the banks suffer from one or another social, mental or physical problem. Ironically, he added, many had worn out their welcome at the various social service shelters due to one violation of rules or another — ironically, because the loudest complaints came from among the leaders of those organizations. Change kicks up a lot of dust."

  • David Christopher Roach I agree- the city govt; and the greedy "folks" downtown all have ulterior motives and agendas.. mine is only that the homeless be placed; or given some vacant downtwon - public or private place- where they can be indoors out of the elements.. the weather is tolerable for now byt that could change at any time- and again- the FWPD will be out in FORCE mode. so- be ready; and annoy the city council the FWPD; the Mayor; the DID; the BISHOP- to make SOME ROOM AT THE INN.. happy holidays!

  • David Christopher Roach AGAIN- TAKE NOTICE OF THE CITY GOVT OWNED FORMER HORSE BARN- A FEW BALES OF STRAW; A FEW DONATED NOWAK PORT A JOHNS; A FEW WARMING TENTS; AND SOME BARRELS AND DONATED WOOD- MAYBE FROM THE CITY COMPOST SITE?- ALLOW THE HOMELESS TO CHOP SOME OF THAT WOOD- FOR EXERCISE, AND SELF RELIANCE?
doe s anyone hire out these folks for day labor? or work for their food?- seems theres more the city govt; and the greedheads could do- not to mentionwayne township trustee, any local mental health groups- so we dont have cemetery killers on the loose; and so the mentally defective- can get help- but the goal for now- is to get everyone indoors somewhere that is sitting vacant, and unused; and where the able bodied and willing- can help clean up and renovate? THE GE- BROAD WAY PLANT? imsure there s a few shops or buildings there also..

  • Joe Renner Jim Sack's officer friend must have misinformed him. Either that or the City failed to fulfill my FOIA. As quoted above there was a single complaint on file with the city. No police report or even an incident report filed with the city. The one complaint that was received by the city did not include any instances of nudity, panhandling, or public indecency as was cited in the story above. I would challenge Jim's officer friend to produce a single complaint involving what was stated in the above story. Although it is true that many homeless do suffer from some form of mental, or physical disorders. This is a failing of our current system that I believe can be rectified.

  • David Christopher Roach im working on a blog post ( disinformation? hmmm.)- anyway- all this effort is for naught- if the homeless arent given /donated a vacant indoor space for when the weather turns frigid again SOON>>)- such as the former FWPD horse barn just across the well st bridge, the vacant paint store; the vacant- former box factory along harrison st- just that one; or the former shire ticket office downtown; or oh-the GE FACTORY BUILDINGS/SHOPS? OR THE FORMER WAYNE PUMP ON GLASGOW ST?- or even the catholic churches downtown with Pews indoors for thehomeless to sleep indoors ; while th ebishop flits around the world and hob nobs with the POPE. what would the POPE do?or the other ono-cathoics for that matter.. ( I dont see Mayor Henry making any drives to fix this issue, since hes supposedly a catholic and family who has "done somuch tohelp the poor..?

  • Charlotte A. Weybright The City is on a push to "gentrify" - even though the preferable word is "revitalization." Hundreds and hundreds of houses are being demolished - many in the southeast area of the City. Ren Pointe is a gentrification project.

    The eviction of the ho
meless is simply a step to remove the "riff raff" from the urban core so a higher class of resident can be implanted into the urban core. Heaven forbid, those with the desire to eat and play along the St. Marys would be exposed to the homeless.

Recent studies reflect that the young professionals and downsizing Baby Boomers - who by the way fled to the suburbs years ago - now want to be in the urban core - a core that many of us did not abandon and have devoted our energies to saving historic buildings and to fighting against the wrecking ball.

  • Ed Rose David, as a CATHOLIC I take offense of your comment on many levels. I'm not sure what your often antagonistic writings intend purpose are. To get people to think? I think not! To drive away those with a developing to mild interest because of your insulting laden comments? Without a doubt!
I for one hope, if you are running for Mayor, you find some other plank in your platform then the homeless. Dancing in the use of words, pot shots at various people or groups, and outright verbal attacks will do far more harm to the plight of the homeless.
To reach a goal takes building bridges with those who wish to join, based on educating and showing the way. Yes, there is time to call out those that block the road but only after every effort is made to get them to move with you or get out of the way.

  • David Christopher Roach HEY ED ROSE. DUDE- name one thing all these do-gooders have done or the city govt has done or the BISHOP, or anybody- that has gotten these poor souls out of the cold? heres a blanket and tarp. good luck with that? ? that hardly seems compassionate?
ESP with all the vacant buildings of various sorts, several city owned, several largley vacant, several-well just large. Seems to me- any one of them or a few- could be COMANDEERED/EMINENT DOMAIN until theyre open for new business- where the HOMELESS can be placed out of the FRIGID BLASTS coming soon? so- until we fix the problem- of finding suitable shelter in industrial etc- buildings out of the elements- FOR EXAMPLE- THE CITY OWNED FORMER FWPD HORSE BARN ACROSS THE WELLS ST BRIDGE- and putting the Serious felons on release, the sex offenders- rapists, baby rapers, etc- on a bus anywhere else; and the mentally ill into a proper faciity; and the mentally chalenged- also indoors- THEN AND ONLY THEN- will this be fixed.
    as for Charlotte A. Weybright
DOY? IS THAT WHAT GENTRIFICATION IS CALLED? DRIVE OUT THE REDNECK YAHOO IGNORANT (TEA PARTYTYPES)- riff raff- out of selected places?
well hello! i have been there done that on that horse- the BLIGHT PROGRAM- which takes 24,900 bucks a house, and turns it into wreckage- for the henrys to recycle and cash in on? I can ballpark about 10 million bucks- at 25,000 bucks a demolistion- that is about 1000- 1500 "blighted" houses- that 1- we could help the homeless live in, 2- renovate into livable houses -affordable houses- where the poor black folks can live and afford; and 3- not grease the palms of fly by night rent to own deveoplers contracted by those crooks at HANDS- ( which iwould also demolish, along with mneighborhood code- both exist to bulldoze the SE /CENTRAL peoprty tax base into AND IM QUOTING CINDY JOYNER, "GREEN SPACES, COMMMUNITY GARDENS, AND MAYBE SOEM HOMEOWNERS CAN BUY THE VACANT LOTS NEXT TO THEM..
    WTF?????

  • David Christopher Roach so- the Mayors approach- is bulldoze, demilish, and turn the urban core intoGREEN SPACES, AND COMUNITY GARDENS, AND RENT TO OWNS?- while my approach-is to renovate, remodel, rehab into affordable housing for the long resident working poor, and nominal places for the hoimless to get in out of the weather, and work on fixing up?
AND- JUST WHOM EXACTLY - ARE ALL THESE MIILLENIALS WHO ARE GOING OT APPEAR OUT OF THIN AIR TO LIVE AND WORK AND INVEST IN DOWNTOWN?AND PAY TAXES? AND WHAT JOBS ARE THEY GOING TO BE DOING?
seems were having a hard enough time 1- keeping our educated here; 2- brain drain- our kids cant wait to get the hell out of dodge on the first bus, train, plane fast enough- to elswhere- anywhere is better than here. ( all we have is fat drunk stupid republicans..HOHOHO!!
so-yes imfamiliar with the term. im also familiar with fort wayne has this problem every year- whenit gets cold- THERES NO ROOM AT THE INN... FOR YOU.. sorry. theres a waiting list; etc..-MY APPROACH- uses the powers of W EHE PEOPLE- THE CONSENT OF THE GOVERNED- AND ADMITTEDLY SOAICLISM- TO GET THESE POOR FOLKS OUT OF THE COLD SO THEY DONT DIE FROM FREEZING TO DEATH. At least im intellectualy honest to know what good socialism and bad socialism is- WHOS GOING TO PAY FOR ALL THIS NEW WONDERFUL RIVERFRONT DEVELOPMENT? if its such a great idea- well- then let the private sector, the free enterprise capitalism market work- instead of "public private partnerships-which is just another form of PONZI SCHEME- NO MONEY DOWN RAL ESTATE SCHEME- USING OTHER PEOPELS MONEY AND IS THE WORST OF BOTH WORLDS- REVERSE ROBIN HOOD, creats nojobs for the ho,eless, or th epoor; enriches the developer sna dht e schemers, and when they blow outof town with their money sacks oflooted LEGACY CASH- guess whos left holding the bags? and gues swho gets their names engraved on those timeless eedifices, and plaques dedicated to their wonderfulness, instead of a nice warm prison cell- 3 hots and a cot- no homeless here.. ???

  • David Christopher Roach in short- fck mayor henry, his crooked cops, York, bender, his crooked cronies at HANDS, LEGACY, NEIGHBORHOOD CODE. this city is ripe for a major reformation.. heads will roll. let these govt bureaucrat parasites go get those swell private sector jobs they are creating.. MILIONS FOR BASEVALL, AND OTHER BOON DOGGLES, AND SQUAT FOR THE POOR AND THE HOMELESS- example? that circle jerk downtown- the superior st roundy round. we spent several millions a few years ago- the grass and tiny trees were just starting to settle in- and iots not even paid for and we go ripping it all up; and re-doing everything? WTF?? talk about a waste of money..dittofor the whoe "envision FTW plan..- whos going to pay for it?

  • Joe Renner It's easy to point out faults and complain. Call people names and vent your anger. It is something else to work towards a solution to the problems we see in our local government and society in general. If you have something constructive to share then please do, but the constant ranting will help no one.
    7 mins · Like
  • David Christopher Roach the rant is the constructive. if you all arent going to get the homeless indoors in any of the vacant buildings all over downtown- or the city owned ones- - well- handing them a tarp, a blanket, a pop, and cold pizza- well- that doesnt solve the problem really, now does it? NO.. soo- ive seen this everyyear for years, and they are still homless- either the same ones, or a mix or a rotation- as the others die off, from exposure, frostbiet, gangrene, etc? see- this is just the start of the SHT storm of opposition because i dare to oppose KING HENRY and the emporers no clothes.. NOR HOME..
