On April 15, 1947 a highly-touted first baseman from the minor league Montreal Royals named Jack Roosevelt Robinson made his debut for the Brooklyn Dodgers at Ebbets Field.

On April 15, 2011, major league players, coaches and umpires throughout America will honor the legendary Hall of Famer by wearing Robinson’s number No. 42 on the field.

Here’s a suitably swinging tribute song written for Jackie by Buddy Johnson and Count Basie.

Enjoy. Remember.
