(none, but 4 armed robberies reported)
==================
Looks like the local "gunslingers" have been a tad on the BUSY side.
Tis the season...hmm?
Just wait until New Years Eve, when the south side becomesFallujah...and the police are relatively MIA.
Moving on...
*** Had another shooting Sunday morning in the Summit City...nice to know some things simply DON'T change on the SE side.
Here's the details, sketchy and not forthcoming as they are (these days):
http://wane.com/2014/12/21/police-investigating-armed-robbery-shooting/
Again, a man shows up at hospital with gunshot wounds (the method of choice these days), and when police investigated, discovered the shooting took place at theVFW post located at 2441 Winter St(nestled in theSE ghettohood).
The call was dispatched around 0057 hrs Sunday morning.
The vic was shot below the waist in the lot at VFW Post 8147, and police were initially treating the investigation as an armed robbery attempt, but have since listed this as a shooting investigation.
Goes to show that with a black police chief, the city is JUST AS SAFE as it was under Grandma Rusty...well, maybe in areas OTHER than the SEside.

Pastor continues homelessness fundraiser

Thursday, December 25, 2014 - 5:49 pm
Pastor Carlton Lynch of New Beginnings Church successfully spent Tuesday night homeless and raised enough money to provide 100 coats for the less fortunate men, women and children in our community. After developing friendships with area homeless men, Lynch was to eat with them at noon Thursday at the Rescue Mission during the Christmas meal and spend two more nights sleeping outside.
"I got to spend time with those who basically have nothing," Lynch said in a news release. "I realized that even though we were able to take care of providing coats, there is much more to be done. My new friends challenged me to spend Christmas with them out on the streets and that's what I am going to do. I challenge all of our other neighbors in the community to help me raise another $7,500 to provide 75 men shelter for 10 more days. Nobody deserves to be without a home any day of the week let alone during Christmas and New Year's."
To track Pastor Lynch's efforts or help support financially, go to www.gofundme.com/homelesslm. As of early Thursday evening he had raised $2,555 of the $7,500 goal.
Last year, roughly 2,000 free Christmas meals were served at the Rescue Mission, 301 W. Superior St.
The meal is made possible by donated food items from area individuals and groups, cash donations, and the assistance of more than 200 volunteers.

Mayor's Christmas wish for Fort Wayne is ancient, but still relevant: peace, good will

Lower homicide rate, economic growth highlighted a mostly positive year for city, he says

Thursday, December 25, 2014 - 12:01 am
Mayor Tom Henry's hoped-for Christmas gift to his city echoes the angels' message to those shepherds in a field near Bethlehem more than 2,000 years ago: Peace on earth, good will to men.
The daily headlines from New York and elsewhere scream how rare and precious that tranquility can be, and how blessed Fort Wayne is to have it.
"My hope is that we get through Christmas and the New Year with a peaceful transition," Henry said, alluding to the angry and sometimes violent street demonstrations protesting the deaths of blacks at the hands of police officers -- demonstrations some believe contributed to the execution-style shooting deaths of two New York City cops last week. As Henry enters the final year of his second term, still officially unsure as to whether he will seek a third (despite more than $300,000 in his campaign coffers as of Jan. 13), this year's relative calm following a record-tying homicide rate in 2013 is a source of pride and thankfulness but also concern, because he knows how fragile it can be.
In fact, the relationship between police and minorities and the challenges facing Fort Wayne's southeast side were very much on the 63-year-old mayor's mind as we sat down for an end-of-the-year interview that made it clear Henry is as proud of his administration's record as he is optimistic about the city's future, whether he leads it or not.
"I'm really proud of what Garry Hamilton has done (as police chief). He's opened up dialogue with (minority) neighborhoods, and we've had an increase of calls to the police and Crime Stoppers. And the (anti-gang) task force has done an unbelievably good job. The color barrier was a general concern, and Rusty (York) fought with it a little," Henry said. Henry selected Hamilton as the city's first black chief late last year after York was promoted to safety director. Some critics say relations between law enforcement agencies and minorities suffer from a lack of diversity on some police departments.
That relationship is in stark contrast to New York, where open warfare has broken out between police and liberal mayor Bill de Blasio, who has been critical of his own department. Henry, in fact, said he is planning a "ride-along" with police -- one that will put him in a car with an officer, not the top brass, and on the more-active night shift instead of broad daylight.
Even so, Henry's biggest disappointment of the year is the lack of economic growth on the southeast side -- a condition that contributes to the poverty that often accompanies crime. "We've put a lot of effort and money into it, but we still have a lack of retail and hospitality businesses there," he said, adding that he's still trying to convince restaurants especially to "take a chance. Where do you go to eat (right now)?"
Overall, however, Henry said he is pleased with progress being made on the economic and community development fronts. Although the area's below-average wages remain a concern, many well-paying industries have announced expansions this year, including Dana, Deister Machine and BAE. Improvements continue downtown as well, most notably construction of the Ash Brokerage headquarters and a riverfront development study to be released early next year. But downtown's true potential and its ability to attract young residents is still being hindered by a lack of housing, he said. Several projects are in the works to address that shortage, including loft-style apartments on the Landing, a project west of Parkview Field and a residential component to the Ash project, a developer for which could be announced next month. A study on the feasibility of a mid-size downtown arena could also be announced next month.
As for the future, Henry expects 2015 to include another $20 million or so in neighborhood improvements ("we're so far behind," he said), and an education-employment summit that will provide access to both jobs and the skills and knowledge needed to land a job.
Whether that future beyond 2015 should include a Mayor Tom Henry is something he'll discuss next week with wife Cindy. "We'll get out of town to talk and pray about it," said Henry, who admits to being hesitant about seeking the job in the first place. "I love my job. This is the greatest job in the world, but my wife has paid a significant price. But for a while (Fort Wayne residents) were our own worst enemy. I want people from other cities to start coming here to see how well we're doing."
Put money on it: Henry seems happy, healthy and confident, and will want to be around to see it..

Tom Henry said that he expects to include 20 million next year in neighborhood improvements and "we're so far behind".

Seems like we just spend 20 million dollars on a parking garage that takes up one block in downtown. We all know where the money is going, and the mayor just told us. Maybe we could spend some of it on the southeast side, the side that got abandoned by the ones who participated in white flight, instead of on parking garages.

WASTING GAS MONEY- NELSON PETERS MONEY PIT MAYOR HENRY TOO

Happy new year? City, county will begin 2015 with a case of gas pain

$2.98-a-gallon price locked in before 'bottom dropped out'

Friday, December 26, 2014 - 12:01 am
While most of Fort Wayne celebrates dramatically lower fuel prices, that joy is tempered for city and county officials who may be experiencing gas pains after agreeing to buy hundreds of thousands of gallons next year at a cost that is -- for now, at least -- far above market rate.
Although government agencies often lock in prices for fuel and other commodities in advance in order to predict expenses and avoid future increases, the recent dramatic decrease in gasoline prices came only after Allen County and Fort Wayne had agreed to pay Fort Wayne-based Lassus Brothers $2.98 per gallon next year. Gas prices in Fort Wayne recently dipped below $2 per gallon for the first time in years.
"When we locked in to (that price) earlier this year, gasoline was $3.40 per gallon," city spokesman John Perlich explained about the 750,000-gallon contract. The city is also paying $2.98 per gallon this year, and despite market fluctuations he said the practice has save the city $196,000 since 2011.
County Commissioner Nelson Peters also said the price of gas was above $2.98 when Purchasing Director Robert Bolenbaugh negotiated the deal with Lassus in April. That deal is for 300,000 gallons, but the county is committed to buy only half that amount at $2.98. The rest will be at market rate, Peters said, minus the taxes government agencies do not pay.
"Nobody knew the bottom would drop out," Bolenbaugh told Allen County Council members earlier this month, adding that he consulted with traders in the petroleum "futures" market before making the deal.
The county made the deal in order to get the same price offered the city, Peters said, noting that the decision to lock in the price of 150,000 gallons and "float" the cost of the remaining 150,000 means the county will be a predictable, moderate overall cost regardless of whether prices rise or fall. In recent years the county has purchased most of its fuel at market prices after locking in contracts before 2008. Either way, Peters said, the cost differences were minimal. "I'm not one to gamble with tax dollars," he added. "This is an anomaly."
But with gas prices already $1 per gallon lower than the contract price and expected to drop even more, Sheriff Ken Fries was in no mood for explanations.
"It's tax dollars, and you shouldn't gamble with my money. It's a waste," said Fries, whose second and final term ends Dec. 31. Fries is also upset that, although Bolenbaugh negotiated the deal months ago, the Commissioners ratified it only this month.
Peters insisted the county was obligated to honor the April agreement, but Fries said city and county officials should have gone back to Lassus after prices dropped and sought a better contract. "This is a bad deal for taxpayers," Fries said.
One part of the deal should benefit both taxpayers and employees, however, Peters said. Until now, county vehicles filled up at the county service center on Clinton Street or at the north and south Highway Department barns -- a process that cost time, money and employee availability. In 2015, county vehicles will be able to fill up at any Lassus station.
"Will it be more convenient? Yes," Fries said -- but a convenience he insists is not worth the hundreds of thousands of dollars the contracts may cost taxpayers.

STILL NO ROOM AT THE INN- CHRISTMAS 2014

http://www.antiquesnavigator.com/ebay/images/2012/370593626412.jpg

still no room at the inn. not even th e barn just north of the well st bridge- city owned. MAYOR HENRY- OPEN THIS BARN.
all our efforts are wasted effort if these folks arent indoors, somewhere. with all the vacant empty buildings all over downtown fort wayne within a half mile radius
( GE, old Box printing building at corner of harrison, and superior, the old paint store, the vacant shrine ticket office on main street, the vacant stock brokers office across from the firestation #1- wayne pump on glasgow; all the downtown churches- especially the CATHOLIC FTWSB DIOCESE OFFICES; AND CHURCHES-)-
especially- the old horse barn; K-9 barn next to the police firefighters memorial- which is city owned, and all it would require is a decree by Mayor Henry( whos family allegedly champions the poor, etc)- to open this barn..- because even an indoor covered barn is better than under a bridge.
City Code- provides for broad emergency powers by the Mayor to act- when theres a public safety emergency- so- does the danger to the public safetyof IE.. the local homeless downtown-freezing to death in frigid weather- merit calling emergency powers to force open these various open vacant empty buildings (privately owned, granted- who may be cheapskates; chislers, etc- who wont do it willingly)- to give the homeless a place to rest indoors?
Chairman Shine was elected chairman on a platform of "commmunitarian endeavor. does this count? we the people- collectively over-rule the needs of the few( the greed of the few)-
again- BISHOP RHOADES- what would POPE FRANCIS SAY TO DO?- OPEN THE CHURCH PEWS FOR THE POOR TO SLEEP INDOORS OVERNIGHT? how little would that cost? -surely less than the 2 million bucks he just burned pursuing his foolish agenda of so called "religious freedom" in opposition to his natural allies- democrats and liberals in our nations capital.. I have noticed the Catholic churches have been assiduously speaking of matthew 25- everything but sheltering the homeless- the out of doors. welcoming strangers- just isnt the same mandate.. - but if the CHURCH and our govt-we the people collectively- cant clothe the frigid; feed the miserable cold and wet; and sehlter the out-of doors- from the elements- even nominally- im not talking Holiday INN- but the allen count Jail- is surely minimal standards. ditto for the homeless shelter.
AND- lastly- again- the WAYNE TOWNSHIP TRUSTEE- has broad powers and a large budget to do the same. Mr Stevenson?
OK- enough flogging this horse again today.
a broken record sometimes gets annoying enough you have to arise to do something to change the tunes..
AFFLICT THE COMFORTABLE; AND COMFORT THE AFFLICTED..
by the way- mentions have been made of fokks whotype badly, use imperfect; "conversational" grammar; and mis-spell words. Im guilty of that also- im not a GRAMMAR NAZI. stop nit picking technicalities, and try to understand wht the person is saying in their own unique style..
we cant all be english majors.. did YOU ( whomever)- get an A in "english W131" from IPFW?

x

  • Vince Roemer Little bro, I think that broken record got annoying way earlier than you may suspect. And no, I got my "A"s in W121, W131, and W146 from IUPUI, while working full-time and living in an Uncle's spare room (sometimes in the car when he went off his meds.) Want to make a difference? Write a bill. In legalese. Get sponsors. Learn how to talk to people like we're human beings instead of privileged sheep. If there's something you want, go to the people who handle these things and ask in a way they'll be receptive to. A 500+ word angry diatribe on facebook accomplishes nothing but alienating anyone who might once have voted for (or even agreed with) you.
  • David Christopher Roach so- i should go raise a million bucks- go to downtown fort wayne, and INDY- bribe a bunch of crooked, corrupt, banal greedy politicians- pay them cash to DO THE RIGHT THING? get sponsors- bribe them to sponsor it? that is precicely whats wrong with the system- 1- to all the do-gooders- if what your doing ISNT GETTING FOLKS INDOORS; if all your doing is handing them a blanket, a tarp; a used coat; a sandwich; patting them on the head, then leaving to your cushy suburban home- and leaving them under the brodge; or out of doors- YOURE NOT HELPING. Youre just prolonging their misery. NOROOM AT THE INN...
Unless the greedy wealthy are having their taxes raised, and its coming out of their pockets to fix the problem- sort of the kind of feed-bacl system our foundrs imagined- wel- your not helping. theres HUNDREDS OF MILLIONS OF CASH stashed in dozens of SLUSH FUNDS- al over town- the Legacy fund; the various community foundations, MEGACHURCHES OUT SOUTH WEST, EMEBERS WHO ARE THE RICH ELITISTS- and so on- well- assume theres 250,000 folks in town, and theres 2500 hardcore homeless in need- thats not very much. but theres Millions for BASEBALL; millions for the WEALTHY GREED HEAD DEVELOPERS SCHEMES- to line th epockets of their pals, families, associates.. BUT SH-T FOR THE POOR- whats wrong with this picture? PEACE ON EARTH; NO ROOM AT THE INN, BE CHRISTIAN, JESUS JOEPHP AND MARY-WE SURE ROLLED UP THE WELCOME MAT THE HAPPY HOLIDAYS QUCIK DIDNT WE? like - dec 25th at midnight-POOF! NOW TO DRINK LIKE FISH NEW YEARS EVE?
-even the Mayor is ignoring the homeless- because it clashes with his families looting of fort wayne..
so- im doing what i can- doing what im good at- social media- nagging folks. annoying the powers that be- suggesting ways to get the homeless indoors- why does every scheme consist of FIRST- WE GO RAISE THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS OF CASH? why cant our pliticians just DO THE RIGHT THING? that costs nothing.. and a lot less than half measures that do little.

YOURE FIRED! Greater FTW; DID; ETC.. (the usual idiots)

YOUR ALL FIRED!

avid Christopher Roach Not to criticize- but these jobs arent for a couple years- and things may fall through. this is typical of Pence- oh yes- theres thousands of jobs- but not anytime soon. so- the governor gets his photo op; you all get your jolly backslapping "what a great job were doing- while spending 600 MILLION DOLLARS IN corporate welfare- and your swell salaries paid by we the people- and what are the results?in MY opinion- the most jobs being created are YOUR cushy desk jobs; and whe you all get something better-POOF! GONE - kicked upward. meanwhile- this jolly shell game of 3 card monty of all your organizations- what does that accomplish? toput things in perspective- if general Patton handled the Battle of the bulge; and the war in Europe the way youfolkas have run your A-B-C-D-E-F-G- renamed enterprise- well- wed all be speaking german( other that the locals who already do)- and we be goosestepping donw the BLVD like some newt gingrich fictional history book/Novel.IF I WAS PATTON- id be like the movie /actial speech- grabbing you by the nose, and kicking you in the behind. But hey- we th epeople have come to expect nothing less than marginal competence, mediocrity, and self sufficieny because we sure cant count on anybody else to creat our jobs..
HERES SOMTHING NOVEL- how about advocating for legalized WEED- like in Colorado, ETC; Sunday sales, lowering the legal age to 18; raising the legal limit to .10 where it was before, decriminalizing OWI; DUI- if theres no personal injuries, or property damages? MAYBE bring back HAPPY HOURS; RE-LEGALIZE CHERRYMASTERS- heck- like the lottery- allow the various gambling corporations to be th evendors and operatorers of these legalized slots/poker machines. AX ALL THESE ACTIVITIES SUFFICIENTLY.
examle- POT FO RPOTHOLES; DOPE FOR THE DCS; BUD FOR BUSSES; and so on.. FACTORIES, MANUFACTURING, is a fools errand- look at the de- industrialization of the 80's- when we had thousands of jobs.. and now? all the various corporations that were the backbone of fort wayne- have left town; leaving a ghost town in their wake. and slave wages..
STOP SPENDING LIKE DRUNKEN SAILORS- the Legacy cash; th eredevelopment commission; ll the TIFF SLUSH FUNDS.. and maybe OFFER TO WORK FOR $1 DOLLAR A YEAR- LIKE ROSS PEROT- UNTIL WE THE PEOPLE SEE SOME RESULTS.?

but what do i know? im just the village idiot savant( get the humor )? we have stupidly- a one party system- contrary to our founding fathers.. A crooked and corrupt KLEPTOCRACY totally unaccountable to the people; and an opressive QUOTE- ZERO TOLERANCE POLICE DEPARTMENT- more akin to well- the aforementioned NAZIS- OPRESSIVE OCCUPYERS- more concerned with ticket and collect- tax collections, revenue enhancement instead of PUBLIC SAFETY- PEACE OFFICERS- PEACE, SAFETY AND TRANQUILITY..- Instead of Smart enforcement.
We stupidly locked our local govternments into a costly fuel contract for 3 bucks a gallon- when the price of GAS was falling-so- can we just bo buy our fuel at any pumpwhere its cheaper unless the price of gas goes up (NO)?- whos the genius who came up with that idea?
THEN WE HAVE THE STUPID IDEA- to DEMOLISH THE JAIL- which ED rosseau-so lavishly and lovingly built as as personal EDIFICECOMPLEX( joke?)- so we can have the riverfront?- since when did the army corps of civil engineers say we could build again on that flood plain? foget the flood of 1913? the flood of 1978? of 1982?- AND JUST WHOS GOING TO PAY FOR ALL THIS FLIM-FLAMMERY?
I could go on and ui wil, but with all due respect- all you folks have your heads up your colective behinds, and dont seem to know what the heck your doing. AND NOW- WERE GOING TO HIRE A NEW DIRECTOR FROMOUT OF TOWN ; OUT OF STATE- well- typical-out of town ; out of state consultants who are clueless of institutional history and localknowledge of whos who; whats what; why we can opr cant do things; whos crooked and whos not-VERY IMPORTANT- and so on?
SO- ID LIKE TO BE HIRED AS THE NEW DIRECTOR- IMA STRAIGHT SHOOTER- I TELL IT LIKE IT IS; AND I WILL GET THING S DONE. LIKE PATTON..
?? hell will freeze over sooner, but hey-
so- best of luck to you all. if i had my way- id dissolve this whole sinking enterprise- scuttle it like a leaky rusty SCOW useless for anything as the track record shows..
merry chriustmas! happy holidays, and happy new year. and HERES YOUR SIGN!! ( as the comedian Bill engvall would say..)
